Barclay 1270

Over the course of 2025 and 2026 I was a member of the team that began to undertake the immense task of restoring this steam locomotive to its early 20th Century condition, when it was a workhorse for the New Zealand lumber industry, working for the Taupō Totara Timber Company.

Project Details:

- Built in 1912, Kilmarnock, Scotland

- Currently being restored at the Museum of Transportation and Technology, Auckland (2025 – Present)

- Work undertaken involved fabricating new brackets to restore tank to watertight condition, as well as machining new pins for engine reverser.
